Did mystery Romney donors also play in Texas?

Two question marksA subsidiary of the Reynolds and Reynolds Company–which was apparently behind $1 million in contributions to the super PAC backing Mitt Romney through three shell companies last month–also gave at least $250,000 to super PACs earlier this election cycle through another subsidiary.

Yesterday we noted that three contributions for about a third of a million dollars each that originated from the same post office box in Dayton, Ohio on May 22 all seemed to be related to Reynolds and Reynolds. The company provides software and other services to car dealerships and related businesses. Chief Executive Officer Robert T. Brockman has already given $5,000 to Romney's campaign, the most he legally can.

Mother Jones reported on its web site yesterday that Dealer Computer Services Inc. also gave $50,000 to Restore Our Future, the super PAC backing Mitt Romney. Dealer Computer Services is a subsidiary of Universal Computer Services, which merged with Reynolds and Reynolds in 2006.

A review of organizational donors to super PACs shows Dealer Computer Services also gave $200,000 to a super PAC called Texas Conservatives Fund. Reynolds and Reynolds has offices in Houston, and Brockman used a Houston address in recent campaign contributions. The super PAC has spent more than $2.3 million opposing Republican senatorial hopeful Ted Cruz, former Texas state solicitor general. Cruz will face Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, also a Republican, in a July 31 runoff election.

Citing a report from Texans for Public Justice, Mother Jones reported that Brockman supported Dewhurst's boss, current Texas Gov. Rick Perry, with $281,127 in campaign contributions between 2001 and 2010.
