  • A new survey by a small nonprofit called Transparify found that many major think thanks are not very transparent when it comes to disclosing information about their donors. (New York Times)
  • The DATA Act will be challenging to implement, but there are a number of reasons to be hopeful for its success. (Government Executive)
  • The Virgin Islands Republican Party doesn’t have any full-time staff, has given very little to Republican candidates, and doesn’t conduct any party activity. In fact, it is entirely possible that the organization is merely a self perpetuating fundraising machine. (New York Times)

State and Local News

  • The California House and Senate are going back and forth over a bill that would force political nonprofits in the state to reveal their donors. The House just passed an amended version after the Senate rejected an earlier draft.(Washington Times)
  • Federal prosecutors are seeking emails, texts, and other records from the Moreland Commission. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) shut down the anti-corruption commission with little warning earlier this year, drawing attention from US attorney Preet Bharara. (New York Times)
