  • Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) appears to have fended off a Tea Party challenge, striking a blow against the Club For Growth’s bank account. The group, which has supported a number of Tea Party candidates, spent nearly $2.5 million against Cochran. (Roll Call)
  • Joe Biden attended a “data jam” focused on building tools to help connect job seekers with work. The author of the piece doesn’t seem particularly impressed with any of it. (Washington Post)

International News

  • English health secretary Jeremy Hunt is pushing for hospitals to be more open about breaches of patient safety. 20% of hospitals received poor ratings on their disclosure practices. (The Guardian)
  • The G20 has a long way to go to smother corruption in it’s economies. Specifically, TI argues that they should focus more attention on corporate transparency. (Transparency International)
  • Writing law has a lot in common with writing code. The Law Factory used that idea to analyze and visualize French law. (Open Knowledge)

State and Local News

  • California voters recently passed a proposition that could set the stage for open data policies in municipalities across the state. Now, a group of open government leaders is taking a “road trip” to spread open data around California. (TechWire)
  • California opened up data about infections associated with healthcare in 2008. The data is now being used to power a map that makes it easy to understand the data. (Data-Smart City Solutions)
