Alex Dodds is Sunlight’s Open Cities Storyteller. In that role she helps showcase how cities are using open data to help everyone in their community, as well as Sunlight’s broader Open Cities work.
Prior to joining Sunlight, Alex served as communications director at Smart Growth America, a national non-profit dedicated to helping cities create vibrant walkable neighborhoods. In that role she helped towns and cities of all sizes understand how different approaches to urban development can support better economic, environmental, and social equity outcomes.
In 2013 Alex was selected as a Next City Vanguard, an annual urban leadership gathering “of the best and brightest young urban leaders working to improve cities across sectors.” In 2013 and 2014 her work was honored by The Global Grid as one of the “top websites for city builders.” In 2007, her team’s work was named to the Times of London’s Top 50 Business Blogs and was honored with a Pollie Award for the “Best Public Affairs Blog.”
Alex graduated from Smith College with a degree in American Studies and Graphic Art. She lives in Washington DC with her family.
