Kyra is an Open Cities Fellow at the Sunlight Foundation. This summer she will be working on a project focused on helping city governments assess the influence and impact of their community engagement work around open data.
She is currently pursuing an MPP with a focus on data analytics and municipal finance at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy. At Harris, Kyra runs the Urban Policy Student Association which provides opportunities for students and community members to engage with urban issues by bringing in city officials and experts in the field for events and workshops.
Kyra previously worked in the education nonprofit field for three years in New York City. She conducted community engagement work and assisted with the internal operations of 826NYC and New Classrooms, two education nonprofits with varying approaches but a common goal of improving learning opportunities for K-12 students. It was while attending community board meetings in New York that she became interested in the relationship between city residents and local government. She has BA in English and French from Tufts University and was born and raised in Chicago.
