WORST GOV WEBSITE EVER?

—Sunlight: “Yesterday the government’s Federal Awardee Performance and Integrity Information System (FAPIIS) came online. This is something we’ve been looking forward to for a while. It’s easy to find horror stories about the mismanagement of contracts; this isn’t surprising when you consider the disorganized constellation of contractor oversight databases that exists, many of which aren’t open to the public. Getting FAPIIS online should be a step toward fixing that problem. Yesterday government took that step. … POGO has some thoughts about it that are certainly worth your time. But we can’t help chiming in as well. In short: this site is terrible. As one colleague said, “This might be the worst website I’ve ever seen.”

ADMINISTRATION CONSIDER EXEC ORDER ON ANONYMOUS DONORS

—Politico: “The Obama administration is considering a number of measures to compel disclosure of the kind of anonymous campaign contributions that helped finance millions of dollars of attack ads against Democrats during the 2010 elections. … The White House last week began circulating a draft executive order that would require companies seeking government contracts to disclose contributions – including those that otherwise would have been secret – to groups that air political ads attacking or supporting candidates. … Calling the draft executive order “an affront to the separation of powers … (and) to free speech,” chamber spokeswoman Blair Latoff said it “lays the groundwork for a political litmus test for companies that wish to do business with the federal government” and is “less about disclosure than intimidation.” … One Democratic congressional aide, who requested anonymity to talk about interactions with the White House, said that Democratic House members had made clear that “there was interest in the House in trying to get the White House to do whatever they could do within their constitutional power” to move the issue.”

—WSJ: “President Barack Obama will travel to Facebook Inc.’s Silicon Valley headquarters Wednesday to hold a “town hall” meeting on the economy with users of the social-networking site. … But Facebook is still trying to find a path to Washington, where the company has only a fledgling lobbying operation, even though it finds its privacy policies under increasing scrutiny and is trying to navigate a politically sensitive expansion into China.”

BP CONTRIBUTIONS SPILL INTO GOP COFFERS

—The Hill: “BP has broken a moratorium on political giving by making contributions to Speaker John Boehner and other GOP leaders nearly a year after its massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. … BP Corp. North America gave $5,000 contributions to Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) through its political action committee, according to a campaign finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday. … House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) received $1,000 and $5,000 contributions respectively from BP North America’s political action committee. Upton told The Hill late Tuesday he is not accepting the contribution and will return it to BP.”
