• Open source incubator moves on: Since 2008, NASA has helped develop several open source cloud services projects. Now that the projects are self sustaining, the agency is planning to shift its emphasis towards becoming a “smart consumer” of commercial cloud services. (Federal Computer Week)
• T-not-for-transparent: Rep. John Mica (R-FL) is calling on the TSA to be more forthcoming with the press, public, and congress over a reported “dramatic meltdown of TSA operations,” at an airport in Florida. (Politico)

• New York organizes influence data: New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman launched a new portal to provide public access to data on campaign contributions, lobbying, and state contracts. (Gov Fresh)
• Soda lobby to flatten Bloomberg’s attack? It seems likely that America’s soft drink industry will lobby heavily against New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s attempt to ban the sale of non-diet sodas over 16 ounces. When congress briefly considered a soda tax in 2009 the industry spent almost $19 million to oppose it. (Politico)

International

• A little corruption can go a long way: The Global Times, a state controlled Chinese media outlet, published an editorial arguing that citizens should accept “an appropriate amount of corruption” in their government. (Global Voices)
• Open data international: The 2012 International Open Government Data Conference, hosted by data.gov and the World Bank, is scheduled for July 10-12 in Washington, DC. It’s theme is “putting data to work.” (Fed Scoop)
• Pushing China’s buttons: Google is adding a new feature that will alert users when they search for a term that is likely to be blocked in China. The move will help Chinese users avoid pages that will be blocked, but is likely to irk Chinese officials. Google has clashed with China over censorship in the past. (Security Law Brief)
