  • Parties favor Internet freedom, differ on details: The GOP adopted an Internet freedom plank as part of its party platform. The party vowed to “resist any effort to shift control away from the successful multi-stakeholder approach of Internet governance…toward governance by…intergovernmental organizations.” Democrats are also expected to adopt language on Internet freedom at their convention next week.   • CIAing stars: New emails obtained through a FOIA request by Judicial Watch show how the CIA decided to give filmmakers Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal exclusive access to information about the Osama Bin Laden raid. The two beat out a former New York Times reporter and documentarians from the BBC and History Channel for access. (Atlantic Wire)
  • State makes Digital Strategy moves: The State Department has identified six data sets ripe for conversation into APIs and seven services that can be optimized for mobile technology as part of the Federal Digital Strategy. The department is also seeking public comment on these proposals. (Fed Scoop)
International
  • Protests against Internet censorship in Jordan: Hundreds of Jordanian websites are participating in a blackout today to protest government censorship and proposed legislation that would give the government even more control over the internet. (Global Voices)
State and Local
  • DC considers addressing campaign finance concerns: Washington, DC Mayor Vince Gray, who’s campaign is under scrutiny for major campaign finance violations, introduced  campaign finance reform legislation yesterday. The bill would place new restrictions on contractors, lobbyists, and corporations who want to donate to local campaigns. (DCist)
  • Politics limits ethics enforcement in Georgia: Georgia’s ethics commission has seen nothing but turmoil over the past few years and is facing numerous challenges as public pressure builds for reform around the state. The commission has had three executive directors resign or be fired since 2006 and seen lawmakers strip it of funding and power. (State Integrity)
