Government
- Dems target tech: The Democratic Party’s 2012 platform, released on Monday, features several key technology related issues including innovation, cyber security, and transparency. (Fed Scoop)
- Internet policy split: Both major parties included planks on Internet Freedom in their policy platforms, opposing UN power over the internet. But, the parties disagree on many other internet related policies including net-neutrality, federal spending to boost Internet access, and the scope of privacy protections. (The Hill)
- We The Infographic: The White House tooted its own horn in advance of its We The People petition platform’s first birthday by releasing an infographic touting the programs success. (Fed Scoop)
Campaign Finance
- Dems attack lobbyists, campaign cash: The Democratic Party platform includes strong positions on influence related issues. It follows the Obama campaign’s lead in thumbing its nose at campaign contributions from registered lobbyists, supports legislation to require more campaign finance disclosure, and suggests that a constitutional amendment could be necessary for reform. - Priority #1- raise more money: Priorities USA Action, the pro-Obama super PAC, had its best fundraising month yet in August, hauling in $10 million. However, they still lag far behind rival Republican groups. (New York Times)
