Verrilli, Former RIAA Lawyer, Confirmed as Solicitor General
Via Wired, we learn that former Recording Industry Association of America attorney Donald Verrilli Jr. has been confirmed by the Senate, and will replace Elena Kagen as solicitor general. Wired notes that Verrilli is one of five RIAA attorneys in the Obama administration. RIAA’s political action committee, its employees and their family members have given roughly 61 percent of their contributions to Democrats since 1989; the trade association has reported spending more than $47 million lobbying the federal government since 1997, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics.
