The pro-Mitt Romney super PAC, Restore our Future, burned through $4 million in just three days this week on independent expenditures in half a dozen states with upcoming primaries. If it keeps up this rate, the super PAC would spend more than $16 million in the 12 days leading up to Super Tuesday, topping the total it spent in January.

Six states with primaries in the next two weeks–Arizona, Georgia, Ohio, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Tennessee–all saw a spending spike.

In Michigan, where voters go to the polls next week, the super PAC supporting Romney pummeled opponent Rick Santorum with more than $1 million in TV advertising, internet ads, direct mail, and phone calls over just two days, Monday and Tuesday. In contrast, Red, White and Blue PAC, which supports Santorum, spent just $124,461.

In Arizona, where there’s a primary the same day, Restore our Future spent $334,850 against Santorum this week, more than half of what it has spent in the state since January.

Many of the ten Super Tuesday states are also getting the Romney touch. In Ohio, on Wednesday, the super PAC pumped $936,819 for ads opposing both Santorum and Newt Gingrich. That’s more than 70 percent of what the Romney PAC has spent all year in the state. 

Even in Gingrich’s home state of Georgia, the Romney PAC dumped more than half a million dollars this week. Tennessee saw a similar amount of spending.

The super PAC has not made itself known in Alaska, where Santorum’s Red, White, and Blue Super PAC made the only independent expenditure seen in the presidential race there so far, for $9,784 on mailings opposing Romney.
