How the DATA Act has changed
Over the last year, the DATA Act has improved significantly as it has gone through the legislative process — and it was a strong bill to begin with. The legislation reflects an evolving understanding of the issues by its sponsors, a series of amendments, and ongoing engagement with members of the public interest community. Now that the final manager’s amendment is on the Rules Committee’s website, after having been available on the Oversight Committee’s Madison website for public comment, and before that on THOMAS, I thought it would be useful to do a redline to show how it has changed.
The redline is a bit messier than usual because THOMAS (oddly enough) hasn’t published the introduced version of the bill online in XML even though it was introduced last year. A vote on the floor of the House is expected tomorrow, and of course, we and many others hope the legislation will pass.
