Owen O’Malley

Open Cities Project Manager

Owen O’Malley is the Project Manager for the Open Cities Team.

Prior to joining Sunlight Foundation, Owen worked as a Project Manager and Digital Producer for Pearson Education, supporting the development and delivery of digital products in various K-12 curricula. Owen also put in volunteer time at Hack for LA, the Los Angeles chapter of the Code for America Brigade Network, where he lead two civically-minded projects: a public participation platform being developed for the City Council of Santa Monica with funding from Mozilla Foundation; and a participant-matching solution for LA Family Housing, a nonprofit working to find sustainable housing for Angelinos experiencing homelessness.

Owen is a Certified Scrum Master and holds a BFA in Theatre from New York University, where he specialized in directing and stage and sound design. At NYU he volunteered at the Center for Students with Disabilities, reading assigned texts to tape for students with visual impairments. Some other true things about Owen: he once ate a cupcake backstage with Adam Duritz of Counting Crows; he once jumped from a moving train and sustained nary a scratch; he was an actual gravedigger for a summer.
