This #GivingTuesday, let the sunshine in

by

Today is one of our favorite days online. #GivingTuesday began six years ago, when the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation created this international day of giving to charities and nonprofits as a response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

One of Sunlight’s long-time advisors, Micah Sifry, called it one of the most successful “cultural hacks” of the decade. We’re inclined to agree. Watching social media light up with people donating and supporting causes and organizations working to create a better world is a welcome phenomenon in any year.

As Ellen Miller, our founding executive director, said years ago, #GivingTuesday raises awareness about philanthropy worldwide and advance the cause of open government.

If you value the work Sunlight has done to open government this year, we hope that you’ll consider donating to us directly, or shopping on AmazonSmile, where you can support us as you go about your holiday shopping.

After you’ve donated, we hope you’ll share your action with your family, friends, colleagues and neighbors on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks.

Thank you for your support today and every day.
