Chart Wars: The Political Power of Data Visualization

by

TargetPoint’s VP and Director of Research, Alex Lundry recently gave this entertaining and enlightening talk at DC Ignite. It’s only 5 minutes long, but chock full of gold, including this reconfiguration of the famous H.G. Wells quote “Statistical Visual thinking will one day be as necessary for efficient citizenship as the ability to read and write.”

  • I agree, data visualizations have so much potential for politics and that more data is available than ever before, but I wonder how easy it really is for ordinary people to play with data themselves. I recently spent some time looking at data provided by various agencies and was surprised by some of the limitations, and particularly with the crazy disorganization of the U.S. Census data. I’d love to hear what you think about ways to make census data more usable to a wider range of people.

  • I love ignite presentations in general, and this one is particularly useful and thought-provoking.

Worth your 5 minutes for sure.

  • Thanks to @JohnWonderlich, we now have a leader for future DataVis.
