Bayh Tells Paper: I’m not Lobbying

by

The quote is almost reminiscent of “We don’t need no stinking badges.” Former Sen. Evan Bayh, responding to a report yesterday that the Hoosier would become a lobbyist for the Chamber of Commerce, answers: “Heck, no,” he told the Indianapolis Star. “I’m not lobbying for anybody.”

We questioned the report of Bayh’s becoming a lobbyist here, noting that the Chamber’s description of his activities did not appear to qualify as lobbying under the Lobbying Disclosure Act. Under lobbying disclosure reforms proposed by Sunlight, non-lobbyist lobbyers like Bayh would have to register, and disclose much more about their activities influencing federal officials.
